Maple Grove Legion Baseball Wins State Opener
The Maple Grove American Legion baseball team opened the state tournament with a 6-3 win over the Rochester A’s.
After scoring single runs in the first and third innings, Maple Grove put together a four-run top of the fifth to lead 6-0.
Brian O’Dwyer’s two-run single keyed the big inning.
Rochester responded with three in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3.
Aiden McMahon worked out of trouble and pitched a complete game for Maple Grove.
They are playing a second pool play game Thursday afternoon and then face Hopkins Friday morning.
The top two in each pool advance to championship bracket play Saturday.
