Maple Grove Legion Baseball Starts Fast in Gopher Classic Win
A seven-run first inning was more than enough to lead the Maple Grove Post 172 American Legion baseball team to a 7-2 win over Bellevue East of Nebraska in pool play at the huge Gopher Classic tournament.
Maple Grove ended up going 3-2 in pool play, beating Thunder Bay, Ontario and Aberdeen, South Dakota in addition to Bellevue East while losing to Rapid City, South Dakota and Sartell, Minnesota.
Sartell went a perfect 5-0 to win the pool.
Champlin Park was the lone local team to win its pool to advance to the championship playoff bracket.
Osseo was 4-1 in pool play but lost a tiebreaker.
