Maple Grove H.S. Seniors Up for Big Hockey Awards
As the Maple Grove boys hockey team prepares for their section tournament final, three of their seniors are recognized for presitigious awards.
Forward Kyle Kukkonen and defenseman Henry Nelson are two of the ten finalists for the Mr. Hockey award. Kukkonen has scored 29 goals and added 40 assists this season. Nelson has eight goals and 33 assists.
Goalie Jack Wieneke is one of three finalists for the Frank Brimsek award, honoring the state’s best goalie among high school seniors. Wieneke is 17-1-0 this season with a goals against average of 1.47.
The virtual ceremony for both awards takes place April 5th.
Maple Grove hosts Centennial for the Section 5AA championship Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
