Maple Grove Girls Tennis Wins State Tournament Opener
The Maple Grove girls tennis team beat Northwest Suburban Conference rival Elk River 4-3 in the state class AA quarterfinals Tuesday.
The Crimson swept the doubles matches on the way to the victory, with their third doubles team of Livia Walseth and Addison Doherty rallying to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Elk River won three of the four singles matches, but Maple Grove’s Summer Ode won a key one at number two singles, beating Mya Nelson 7-6, 6-2.
Fourth seed Maple Grove now faces top seed Rochester Mayo in the semifinals Wednesday morning at 8:00 at Baseline Tennis Center.
