Maple Grove Girls Soccer Edges Brainerd in Section 8AA Semifinals
The defending state champion Maple Grove girls soccer team edged Brainerd 2-1 in the Section 8AA semifinals.
After Brainerd scored first, Maple Grove answered as Emma Fournier finished a nice sequence of passes to tie it 1-1.
Late in the first half, persistence paid off for Kelley Kloncz. Her first two shots were blocked but her third try hit the back of the net.
That 2-1 halftime lead held up through the second half as Maple Grove advanced to the final.
They face top seed Rogers on the Royals’ home field Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for the section title.
