Maple Grove Girls Hockey Team Wins Section 5AA Title
The Maple Grove girls hockey team won the Section 5AA title by beating Blaine 4-2.
The Bengals scored the first goal on a power play before Lauren Stenslie answered 41 seconds later for the Crimson.
Sam Nordstrom and Brigit Goetsch scored in the second period to give Maple Grove a 3-1 lead.
Blaine’s Brityn Fussy scored with two and a half minutes remaining to make it 3-2.
Stenslie tacked on an empty net goal to secure the win and section championship for Maple Grove.
Maple Grove is the number four seed for the state Class AA tournament.
They meet Hill-Murray in the quarterfinals Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
