Maple Grove Girls Hockey Team Hitting its Stride
Maple Grove had back-to-back outstanding seasons the past two years, including a state runner-up finish in 2016. Some very good talent graduated from those teams, meaning this year’s Crimson team would have a lot of new faces. The coaches and players are excited by how much the team has improved since the start of the season in mid-November. The Crimson won the tough Walser Invitational holiday tournament in Edina shortly after Christmas, winning the title by edging the host Edina Hornets in a shootout in the championship game. Maple Grove has a key week, facing Andover on the road Tuesday night and then hosting Blaine Saturday afternoon.
