Maple Grove Girls Hockey Set for Season
The Maple Grove girls hockey team is set for the new season under a new leader.
He is hardly new to the program though.
Jim Koltes takes over as Crimson head coach.
He was Maple Grove’s coach for nine seasons before stepping down in 2008.
After coaching Rogers for two seasons and Champlin Park (later Champlin Park-Coon Rapids) for eleven, Koltes took the Maple Grove post this summer.
He had remained as Crimson softball coach while coaching hockey elsewhere.
The Crimson went 15-5 and finished second in the Section 5AA tournament under coach Kelly Crandall last season.
The top two scorers and starting goalie graduated, but there is good talent returning and young players are stepping up.
Captains Tia Rice, Taylor Holm, Jenna Brandt, and Stella Retrum are among the leaders this season.
Maple grove opens the season Tuesday night at home against Delano before hosting Hutchinson and Holy Family later this week.
