Maple Grove Girls Hockey Loses State Tournament Opener
The Maple Grove girls hockey team lost its state tournament opener Thursday night, falling 2-1 to Gentry Academy in the Class AA quarterfinals.
Stella Retrum opened the scoring for Maple Grove netting a goal on a rebound in the second period.
But the Stars tied the game later in the second and scored the game winner on a powerplay goal by Campbell Hager with under five minutes to play in the game.
Dani Strom made 30 saves in net for the Crimson. Maple Grove bounced back Friday to beat Brainerd 3-0 in the consolation semifinals. Retrum scored two goals for the Crimson (21-7-2) who play Burnsville for the consolation title Saturday at noon at TRIA Rink in St. Paul.
Gentry plays Andover in the AA semifinals Friday night.
