Maple Grove Girls Hockey Loses in 5AA Final
Centennial/Spring Lake Park skated past Maple Grove 4-1 to win the Section 5AA girls hockey title for the second straight season.
It’s the sixth year in a row the teams have met in the section championship game.
The Cougars got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Annabelle Buccicone and Ella Perrault. Buccicone added her second goal of the night in the second period to give her team a 3-0 lead.
Maple Grove’s lone goal came early in the third period on Harper Wieneke’s 7th goal of the season.
Alaina Gnetz finished the scoring late with an empty net goal.
The Crimson finish the season with a record of 18-10-0.
Centennial/Spring Lake Park (24-3-1) faces Farmington the state AA quarterfinals Thursday at Grand Casino Arena in St Paul.
