Maple Grove Girls Hockey Falls 2-1 to Minnetonka
The Maple Grove girls hockey team gave top seed Minnetonka before ultimately losing 2-1 in the state class AA quarterfinals.
Maple Grove played a strong first period and scored first as Maddie Elfstrand netted a powerplay goal, giving the Crimson a 1-0 lead after one.
The Skippers dominated the second period, and Lindzi Avar’s wrist shot with 0.9 seconds left in the period gave Minnetonka the lead for good.
Each team had a potential goal waved off after video review in the third period as Minnetonka held on for the 2-1 win.
Maple Grove beat Northfield 7-2 in the consolation bracket Friday afternoon.
They’ll meet Roseau for the consolation title Saturday.
