Maple Grove Girls Hockey Beats Champlin Park/Coon Rapids in Section 5AA Semifinals
For the fourth straight season the Maple Grove girls hockey team beat Champlin Park/Coon Rapids in the Section 5AA semifinals.
The Crimson scored two empty-net goals to pull away for a 4-1 win over CPCR Tuesday night at Roseville Ice Arena.
Maple Grove’s Harper Wieneke scored one minute into the game to give her team an early lead.
Champlin Park/Coon Rapids tied it late in the first on a powerplay goal by Kylie Aswegan.
After a scoreless but intense second period, Cali Anderson’s shot from the point deflected off a defender and in to give Maple Grove a 2-1 lead early in the third period.
CPCR had some good chances but could never get the equalizer.
Abbey Oakland and Wieneke scored empty-netters five seconds apart to seal the win for the Crimson.
They meet top seed Centennial/Spring Lake Park Friday in the section final.
