Maple Grove Girls Hockey Beats Centennial/Spring Lake Park
The Maple Grove girls hockey team broke a two-game losing streak with a key 5-1 win over rival Centennial/Spring Lake Park Tuesday.
The Crimson started fast with a pair of first period goals from Stella Retrum and Kelsey Olson to take a 2-0 lead.
Olson’s power play goal came just 31 seconds after Retrum opened the scoring.
Abbey Oakland scored the only goal of the second to give Maple Grove a commanding 3-0 lead.
Grace Erickson and Bella Shipley added goals in the third after the Cougars tallied early in the third.
Standout goalie Dani Strom returned to the net for Maple Grove after missing four games while playing for the U.S. Under-18 team in Sweden.
Strom stopped 22 of 23 Centennial shots.
Maple Grove is ranked sixth in class AA, while Centennial/Spring Lake Park is ninth.
