Maple Grove Girls Hockey Battle-Tested Heading Into State Tournament
The Maple Grove girls hockey team is back at the Class AA State Tournament for the fourth time in six years.
The Crimson advanced to state by beating Centennial/Spring Lake Park, 6-3 in the Section 5AA Final.
The Crimson played one of the state’s toughest schedules this year playing numerous ranked teams, including Minnetonka, which is who Maple Grove will face off in the opening round of the state tournament.
The Crimson lost to the Skippers 4-1 back in November, but were down just one goal to Minnetonka late in the third period.
Maple Grove has one of the top goalkeepers in the state in Dani Strom and a solid defensive core. They also feel like they are peaking offensively, scoring 21 goals in the 5AA tournament.
The Crimson will face off against the Skippers on Thursday at 6:00 PM at the Xcel Energy Center.
