Maple Grove Girls Hockey Aims for Strong Season
The Maple Grove girls hockey team is hoping to make a return trip to the state tournament this season.
The Crimson graduated a few top players, including all-state goalie Dani Strom (now playing for St. Thomas) and leading scorer Bella Shipley (Minnesota State-Mankato) but return a good group from last year’s Section 5AA championship team.
They have a strong group of sophomores, many of whom played key roles as freshmen last winter. Second leading scorer from last season Kelsey Olson leads a good group of forwards.
The Crimson lost their season opener in a rematch of last season’s section final to Centennial/Spring Lake Park, and they have some other tough tests early.
They say that will make them stronger in the end as they aim to return to the Xcel Center for state tournament play.
