Maple Grove Girls Hockey Advances to 5AA Final
Stella Retrum scored two goals in the first minute of the game as the Maple Grove girls’ hockey team went on to beat Champlin Park/Coon Rapids 4-3 in the semifinals of the Section 5AA tournament.
After Kylie Scott scored for the Bluebirds, Kelsey Olson tallied late in the first period to put the Crimson ahead 3-1 after one.
There was no scoring in the second period and CP/CR pulled within 4-3 with a goal from Scott with just 1:08 to play in the game but the Crimson hung on to win.
Dani Strom made 33 saves for Maple Grove (19-6-1). Champlin Park/Coon Rapids finishes the season with a record of 17-8-2.
Maple Grove faces Centennial/Spring Lake Park for the Section 5AA title Friday at 7:00 pm at Roseville Ice Arena.
The Crimson beat the Cougars twice during the regular season.
