Maple Grove Girls Basketball Holds off Mounds View to Advance to State
The Maple Grove girls basketball team held off an upset bid by Mounds View to win 55-47 in the Section 5AAAA championship game Thursday.
Third seed Mounds View was up 23-21 at halftime and built a nine-point lead before Maple Grove surged to grab the lead for good.
Kate Holmquist had 15 of her 17 points in the second half for the Crimson.
Sienna Mayer made five three-pointers and scored 15 points.
Sophia Anderson also had 15 for the Crimson, who advance to the state tournament for a third straight season.
8th grade standout Jaycie Helmer scored 25 to lead Mounds View.
