Maple Grove Football Tops Shakopee to Advance to Prep Bowl
Chuck Langama ran for 198 yards and four touchdowns in helping lead the top-ranked Maple Grove football team to a 26-14 state Class 6A semifinal win over Shakopee.
After the Sabers fumbled the game’s opening kickoff, Langama rushed 22 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.
Shakopee answered with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Emmanuel Taye to tie the score 7-7 25 seconds into the game.
Following a Kaden Harney interception late in the third quarter for the Crimson, the Sabers took a 14-13 lead on a one-yard TJ Clark touchdown run.
The Crimson answered with a quick scoring drive capped by a 40-yard Langama touchdown run to take the lead for good 19-14.
Maple Grove’s defense held a strong Sabers running attack to just 103 yards of total offense, all on the ground, and put the game away on Langama’s fourth touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The Crimson (12-0) will try to cap the program’s second unbeaten season in three years when they face Minnetonka (10-2) in the Prep Bowl Friday at 7:00 pm at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Crimson beat the Skippers 31-21 during the regular season.
