Maple Grove Football Tops Minnetonka to Win Prep Bowl
The Maple Grove football team won its second Class 6A state championship in three seasons, beating Minnetonka 28-21 in the title game.
The Crimson took an early first quarter lead on a 42-yard fumble recovery touchdown by Jacob Wrbanek and added two Chuck Langama rushing TD’s to lead 21-7 at the half. Langama finished the game with 143 yards rushing.
After a scoreless third quarter, Patrick Wright’s 10-yard touchdown run put Maple Grove ahead 28-7 with 5:29 to play.
The Skippers answered, scoring two touchdowns in the next three minutes to pull within 28-21. Minnetonka got the ball back one final time with 12 seconds left at their own 15-yard line but Dylan Vokal’s second interception of the game sealed the win for Maple Grove.
The 2024 Crimson join the ’22 Maple Grove team with the best record in school history at 13-0.
