Maple Grove Football Loses Heartbreaker in Prep Bowl
The Maple Grove football team lost the Class 6A Prep Bowl championship game to Lakeville South 13-7.
The Crimson, who finished the season with a program-best record of 11-2, came closer than any other team to ending the Cougars’ 20-game winning streak.
After a scoreless first half Maple Grove took a 7-0 lead in the third quarter on a 35 yard pass from Jacob Kilzer to Tanner Albeck.
But South (13-0) answered on its next drive as quarterback Camden Dean scored on a 28-yard run.
The Cougars scored the winning points on a 52-yard run by Dean with 3:05 to play. The Crimson reached the 26 yard line of Lakeville South before turning the ball over on downs in the game’s final minute.
Derrick Jameson rushed for 97 yards on 21 carries to lead Maple Grove on offense. Dean rushed for 109 yards for South.
