Maple Grove Boys Hockey Skates Past Elk River 8-3
The second-ranked Maple Grove boys hockey team opened its season with a strong performance Thursday.
The Crimson beat 20th-ranked Elk River/Zimmerman 8-3 on the first night for winter high school sports in Minnesota.
Kyle Kukkonen scored two goals and three assists for the Crimson. Cal Thomas added two goals and an assist.
The Crimson outshot the Elks 42-22.
Maple Grove plays at Champlin Park Saturday night.
