Maple Grove Boys Hockey Skates Past Champlin Park in 5AA Playoffs
The Maple Grove boys hockey team is back in their section final again following a 6-1 win over Champlin Park in the Section 5AA semifinals. Six different players scored for the Crimson in the win.
Brent Solomon opened the scoring for Champlin Park with a goal at 7:32 of the first period.
Maple Grove tied the game three minutes later with a short-handed goal by Lucas Busch.
Jackson Kuznik then gave the Crimson the lead for good with a goal at 14:10 of the first. Owen Smith, Brady Aubut, Joey Imgrund and Luke Giuliani also scored for Maple Grove.
The top-seeded Crimson (21-6-0)– the four-time defending section champions– face second-seeded Centennial (18-7-2) for the 5AA championship Thursday night in Elk River.
The Crimson beat the Cougars 4-2 in the teams’ lone regular season meeting.
