Maple Grove Boys Hockey Set for State Tournament Opener

The Maple Grove boys hockey team is set for its state tournament opener Thursday.

The Crimson will face Edina in the class AA quarterfinals at 1:00 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

It’s the third straight trip to the tournament and fifth overall for Maple Grove.

The Crimson beat Rogers 4-2 in the Section 5AA championship game to advance.

They met Edina in the season opener at the CCX Turkey Trot tournament Thanksgiving weekend.

Edina rallied for a 6-5 overtime win over the Crimson in that one.

The Hornets shut out all three opponents they faced in the Section 6AA tournament to advance to state.
