Maple Grove Boys Hockey Loses State Quarterfinal
The Maple Grove boys hockey team lost 3-1 to Cretin-Derham Hall in the state class AA quarterfinals at Xcel Center in St. Paul.
Just after the Raiders scored early in the first period, Jay Ellingson blocked a pass along the wall and went to the net, where his pass deflected off a Raiders’ skate and in to tie the score 1-1.
Maple Grove played a strong second period, but the Raiders netted the only goal of the period as Holden Saumweber scored on a rebound.
The Crimson couldn’t get anything past goalie Leo Miller in the third period and the Raiders added an empty net goal to secure the win.
Maple Grove plays in the consolation bracket Friday morning at 10:00 at Mariucci Arena.
