Maple Grove Boys Hockey Falls to Centennial in 5AA Final
The Maple Grove boys’ hockey team’s streak of section titles has come to an end.
The Crimson, winners of the last four Section 5AA championships, fell 5-2 to Centennial in Thursday night’s section final.
Heath Nelson, Centennial’s leading goal scorer Heath Nelson gave the Cougars the first lead of the game with just under five minutes to play in the first period.
Maple Grove answered with a Lucas Busch goal three minutes later to tie the game at one.
Centennial though got the lead for good when Maple Grove took back to back penalties in the second period to give the Cougars a 5-on-3 powerplay.
Nelson and Nick Carls both scored on power play goals to give their team the lead for good.
Centennial (19-7-2) won their first section title in six years. Maple Grove finished the season with a record of 21-7.
