Maple Grove Boys Basketball Upsets Top-Ranked Champlin Park in State Tournament Quarterfinals
The Maple Grove boys basketball team upset top-ranked Champlin Park 70-61 in overtime to advance to the semifinals of the state class AAAA tournament.
The Crimson, who lost twice to the previously unbeaten Rebels during the regular season, outscored Champlin Park 14-5 in overtime.
Morgan Moore scored 22 points, Terence Anthony-Larmouth 20 and Jon Haakenson 16 to lead the Crimson.
The Rebels’ Francis Nwaokorie hit a tying, buzzer-beating three pointer to send the game to overtime. Nwaokorie, a Mr. Basketball finalist, scored 31 points for the Rebels who finished the season with a 21-1 record.
Maple Grove (13-9) now plays Cretin-Derham Hall in the state semifinals April 8th at 6:00 pm at the Target Center.
