Maple Grove Boys Basketball Rolls into State Semifinals
In a game that featured great shooting by both teams in the first half, the Maple Grove boys basketball team pulled away to beat Alexandria 82-65 in the state Class AAAA quarterfinals.
Maple Grove led 40-34 after a superb first half that saw each team shoot 55 percent from the field, with Maple Grove going 8-for-13 on three-pointers and Alexandria hitting 7-for-13 on threes.
The Cardinals, state champion in Class AAA last season before moving up, couldn’t keep up their scoring pace in the second half though as the Crimson slowly pulled away.
Max Iversen had 41 points on 15-for-23 shooting to lead Maple Grove. He hit 6-for-10 on three-pointers.
Henry Knutson was 4-for-7 on threes and had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Crimson.
Talan Witt hit 8-for-10 from the field and was 4-for-5 on threes to lead Alexandria with 24 points.
Maple Grove meets Apple Valley in the semifinals Thursday night at Williams Arena.
