Maple Grove Boys Basketball Falls in State Semifinals
The Maple Grove boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start in a loss to Cretin-Derham Hall in the state Class AAAA semifinals.
The Crimson scored just 16 points in the first half on the way to a 54-42 loss to the Raiders.
Maple Grove had upset top-ranked Champlin Park in the quarterfinals to reach the Target Center.
The Crimson played a better second half, outscoring the Raiders 26-25 but couldn’t make up the deficit.
Jon Haakenson scored 11 points and Terence Anthony-Larmouth 10 for Maple Grove.
All-metro guard Tre Holloman scored 18 to lead Cretin-Derham Hall.
The Raiders now face Wayzata for the state title Saturday night.
