Maple Grove Beats Rogers in 5AA Boys Hockey Final
Finn Brink scored a hat trick to lead the Maple Grove boys’ hockey team to a 7-3 win over Rogers in the Section 5AA boys’ hockey final Thursday night.
Brink, a senior and Mr. Hockey finalist, scored 23 seconds into the game to give Maple Grove a lead they would never give up.
The Royals, the top seed in the section, never got closer than one goal after falling behind 2-0 and later 4-1.
Sam Ranallo, another Mr. Hockey finalist, netted two goals for Rogers.
The Royals (18-7-3) finish as section runner-up for a second straight year.
The Crimson (22-5-1), won their fourth straight 5AA title and will find out Saturday who their first-round state tournament opponent is.
The Class AA quarterfinals begin Thursday morning at the Xcel Energy Center.
