Maple Grove Beats Lakeville South for Prep Bowl Berth
The Maple Grove football team kept its state championship dreams alive with a 14-7 win over Lakeville South Thursday in the Class 6A semifinals.
The Crimson will play for the title in the Prep Bowl on December 2nd against the winner of tonight’s Eden Prairie-Rosemount game.
After falling behind 7-0 to South after the opening drive of the game, Maple Grove rallied with two second-quarter touchdowns.
Tanner Albeck scored on a two-yard run to tie the game at seven on MG’s first offensive series which spanned parts of the first and second quarters.
Later, following a fourth-down stop by the Crimson defense, Jacob Kilzer passed 72 yards to Jacob Anderson for a touchdown and a 14-7 halftime lead. There was no scoring in the second half.
Maple Grove recorded three interceptions in the game- two by Max Johnson and one by Jackson Powers.
Johnson’s second pick came on the game’s final play.
The 2022 Crimson (12-0) also become the first 12-win team in program history.
