Local Wrestlers Reach Medal Stand at State Tournament
A dozen wrestlers from the northwest suburbs wrestled into the final session of the state individual wrestling tournament Saturday.
That included three local girls in the first-ever girls state tournament.
Park Center’s Ro Adeduntan won her semifinal match but was pinned by Joel Makem of Shakopee in the 126-pound girls final.
Maddie Alexander of Wayzata beat Amelia Hermanson of Armstrong 7-1 in the girls 100-pound third place match.
Osseo’s Jacob Meissner capped off a great career with his second straight state championship in the class AAA 220-pound final.
Local wrestlers placing third in class AAA were: Luke Koenen of Wayzata (106), Max Johnson of Maple Grove (138) and Kyler Wong of Wayzata (145).
Fourth place finishers were Adam Cherne of Wayzata (170), Aidan Wayne of Osseo (195) and Dominic Heim of Wayzata (220).
Park Center’s Ismael Kante placed fifth at 182 pounds and John Lundstrom of Osseo was sixth at 152 pounds.
