Local Wrestlers Battle on First Day of State Individual Tournament
Local wrestlers from the northwest suburbs didn’t fare that well in the opening round of the state class AAA individual wrestling tournament, with a few exceptions.
Joey Thompson of Maple Grove came in ranked number one at 106 pounds and he rolled to a technical fall win over Anoka’s Brendan Howes.
Gavin Peterson of the Crimson won by forfeit in the 138-pound class, while MG’s Adam Skogman (220) and Isaac Boehmer (285) lost in the first round.
Wayzata’s Cael Swensen (106) and Mitchell Hogue (138) won their opening matches, with Swensen scoring a pin.
Parker Cary (145) of Wayzata lost his opener.
All three Osseo entrants, Adam Lanners (170), Taylor Meissner (182) and Jagger Schack (220), lost in the first round.
Hopkins entrants R.J. Chakolis (182) and Clifton Paterson (145) also were defeated.
The individual tournament wraps up Saturday.
