Local Skiers Excel at Section 5 Alpine Meet
Wayzata’s Sonja Pendergast won the girls individual title, highlighting a successful day for skiers from the northwest suburbs at the Section 5 Alpine ski meet.
Pendergast had a sparkling first run of 28.78 and followed with a 30.88 for her second run to win.
Her teammate Katie Miller placed fourth to qualify for state, along with Mary Foster and Courtney Weber of Hopkins and Mackenzie Gleason of Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
Minnetonka and Blake advanced to state as girls teams, with Blake edging third place Wayzata by two points.
The top local boy was Armstrong’s Breck Swanson, who placed fourth to advance to state.
Haaken Dohse of Hopkins, Carley Burns of Breck, Rainier Gilliss Of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, and Sam Corbett of Wayzata also qualified for state.
Oscar Anderson of Minnetonka was the boys individual winner.
Minnetonka and Blake qualified as boys teams.
The state Alpine meet is Tuesday February 10th at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik.
