Local Player Leads Wisconsin-River Falls to Women’s Hockey National Championship
Maddie McCollins finished her college hockey career in style. The 2019 Wayzata High School graduate and Maple Grove native was a big part of a championship season for Wisconsin-River Falls.
The Falcons defeated Elmira 4-1 to win the Division III women’s hockey national title, capping a 31-0 season for UW-RF.
McCollins netted 33 goals and 31 assists and was named national player of the year and most outstanding player in the D-III Frozen Four, hosted this season by River Falls.
The fifth-year player was one of the team’s captains and finishes as the program’s all-time leader in games played.
It is the first national championship in women’s hockey for River Falls.
