Hopkins Wins Section 6AA Gymnastics Title
The Hopkins gymnastics team qualified for state for the first time since 2008 as the Royals won the team championship at the Section 6AA meet.
The Royals, Lake Conference champions this year, scored 144.275 points, nearly four points better than runner-up and defending champion Wayzata.
Hopkins junior Annabelle Speers won three of the four events (vault, bars, and floor) and finished with an all-around score of 36.875.
The Hopkins state individual qualifiers are Speers, NyahSymone Britt, Leni DePauw and Jade Hutton.
Wayzata also qualified for individuals for state—Roshni Palaniswamy, Kylie Ufheil, Kate Mignone, and Mikaela Lundvall.
The state Class AA team competition is scheduled for Friday morning at 11:00 with the AA individual meet starting Saturday at 11:00 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
