Hopkins Legion Baseball Falls in 4th of July Tournament Opener
The Hopkins American Legion baseball team fell to Eagan 10-9 in eight innings in the first round of the Delano Stars and Stripes Wood Bat 4th of July tournament.
The back and forth battle saw Hopkins jump out to a 5-0 lead. Americo Sculatti hit a three-run homer in the third to power the Flyers.
Eagan rallied with five runs in the top of the fourth to even the score at 5-5.
Hopkins scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to go up 8-5, but the Patriots kept hitting, too.
Hopkins carried a 9-8 lead into the seventh before Eagan tied the game up.
The Patriots scored in the top of the eighth and held on for the win.
Wayzata also lost its first round game, while Osseo beat host Delano 7-4.
The tournament continues with pool play Friday and Saturday.
Semifinal and championship games are Sunday.
