Hopkins Legion Baseball Beats Wayzata in Delano 4th of July Tournament
The Hopkins Post 320 American Legion baseball team beat Wayzata 11-3 in the opening round of the Delano Stars and Stripes 4th of July tournament.
Hopkins came out swinging, scoring three runs in the top of the first, adding two in the second and three more in the third.
Charlie Schaefer went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two runs batted in for Hopkins.
Jack Mausser, Brock Zimmer, and Paul Safranski each had two hits for the Flyers.
Jackson View pitched a complete game for Hopkins, allowing two earned runs while striking out nine.
Pool play in the eight-team tournament continues Saturday.
Hopkins meets Eagan at noon. Wayzata plays Lakeville South at 7:30 p.m.
Osseo won its tournament opener, beating Minneapolis Southwest 7-0.
Osseo faces Edina in round two Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
