Hopkins Girls Basketball Caps Season With State Title
The Hopkins girls basketball team won its eighth state championship in the past 20 seasons with a 72-56 Class AAAA title game win over St. Michael-Albertville.
Liv McGill led the Royals in scoring in the final with 25 points pm 11 of 13 shooting from the field. Taylor Woodson added 16 points and 13 rebounds.
The Royals were upset in the state semifinals by Chaska last season and did not get to play the 2020 championship game because of the start of the pandemic.
The team’s last title was in 2019 when the Royals finished the year unbeaten.
This season Hopkins (26-1) was undefeated against Minnesota teams, losing only to the nation’s top-ranked team– Sidwell Friends of Washington D.C.
