Hopkins Boys Basketball Gets Big Win over Wayzata, Emotions Run High after Game
The Hopkins boys basketball team held off a second-half charge from Wayzata to earn a last-second win over the Trojans, 77-76.
The Royals got up by as many as 15 points in the second half, but led by Christian Wiggins’ 33 points Wayzata came all the way back and cut the lead to one.
Wyatt McBeth couldn’t get his shot off with 5.8 seconds left and the Royals held on for the win.
Hopkins was led by Anthony Smith III, who poured in 23 points while Jayden Moore added 17.
After McBeth’s missed shot, a double technical was assessed to both the Wayzata and Hopkins benches.
Then after the game, emotions were running high, with words exchanged between the coaching staffs.
