Hopkins Boys Basketball Downs #1 Ranked & Unbeaten Wayzata
The Hopkins boys basketball avenged their season-ending section final loss from last year and took down the #1 ranked team in Class AAAA with a 80-69 win over Wayzata.
The Trojans came into Tuesday night unbeaten at 14-0 and hadn’t lost a game since February 16th of last season.
The Royals got up by as much as 20 points midway through the second half, but Wayzata stormed back to pull within two points with five minutes to play.
Hopkins was able to get timely stops and scores down the stretch to knock off Wayzata in front of a packed house.
Leading the Royals in scoring was Davie Hart with 22 points. Anthony Smith (20 points), JJ Semanko (17), and Jayden Moore (12) also scored in double figures.
For the Trojans, Jackson McAndrew led the way with 14 points, while both Christian Wiggins and Ben Shaffer scored 13.
Hopkins is now 11-3 and 2-1 in Lake Conference play while Wayzata drops to 14-1 overall and 3-1 in the Lake.
