Hopkins Beats Forest Lake In Gopher Classic Baseball
The Hopkins American Legion baseball team scored five runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 9-6 win over Forest Lake in the opening game of the Gopher Classic tournament.
Aaron Aune’s two-run homer highlighted the big fourth inning for the Flyers. Forest Lake did score four runs in the seventh inning before Hopkins pitcher Charlie Schaefer notched a game-ending strikeout.
Hopkins is one of 96 teams playing in the Gopher Classic this weekend. Each of the six teams in the sixteen pools play in a round-robin format through Sunday.
Hopkins’ games this weekend are all at Big Willow Park in Minnetonka.
The 16 site winners then advance to the Round of 16 beginning Monday morning at one of four metro-area sites.
Champlin, Maple Grove, Osseo and Wayzata are also competing in the tournament.
