Hopkins Baseball Set to Defend Lake Conference Title
The Hopkins baseball team will have a lot of new faces in the lineup this season after graduating a lot from a team that was 21-5 overall and won the Lake Conference title last season.
The Royals will build around key returners Drew Charney, a catcher who will play for Butler, along with catcher/infielder Chase Johnson and pitcher Marcus Champagne.
Hopkins lost to St. Louis Park in the Section 6AAAA final last season.
Royals’ head coach Jason Mihalakis says the section is as wide open as any year he can remember, with 7 or 8 teams having a realistic chance to win it.
Hopkins is scheduled to open the season at home April 10 against Armstrong, if weather and field conditions permit.
Hopkins does have an artificial turf field, meaning that starting date isn’t out of the question at this point.
