Girls Wrestling Passes, Boys Volleyball Falls Short
A state tournament for high school girls wrestling was approved Tuesday, but boys volleyball lost a close vote to become a sanctioned high school league sport.
The Representative Assembly of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) voted 44-4 to add girls wrestling to the existing state wrestling tournament.
Girls would continue to be part of co-ed programs for training and regular season competition, then have a separate division at the state tournament.
Boys volleyball is operating as a club sport now with 41 programs.
The vote to make it an official sanctioned MSHSL spring sport failed to pass, with 29 yes votes and 18 opposed.
