Former Robbinsdale HS Star, Olympian Len Lilyholm Dies
A hockey standout who led the old Robbinsdale High School to its only state tournament appearance and later played in the Olympics has died.
Len Lilyholm and his wife Carol were killed in a car accident in Iowa over the weekend.
Lilyholm was a 1959 Robbinsdale graduate and helped the Robins reach the state tournament that year.
He starred at the University of Minnesota, and after being one of the last players cut for the 1964 U.S. Olympic hockey team, he made the 1968 squad for the Olympics in Grenoble, France.
Lilyholm also played one season for the Minnesota Fighting Saints in the WHA.
Len Lilyholm was 83, and Carol Lilyholm was 82. They resided in Florida.
