Eleven Local Wrestlers Win Medals at State Meet
Totino-Grace’s Jackson Refsnider took home gold on the final day of the state high school wrestling tournament, winning the Class AA 133-pound final with a third period fall. The senior won his first state title and finished the season with a record of 44-2.
Maple Grove’s Connor Peterson, unbeaten coming into the AAA 139-pound final, lost a tough 6-5 decision to Anthony Heim of Shakopee. Peterson finished his season at 51-1.
Other local medalists included three state AA runner-up finishes for Totino-Grace wrestlers– Logan Refsnider (127 pounds), Payton Herbst (172) and Joe Kruse (215). Wayzata had three medalists– Gavin Hoeft (107 pounds, 3rd place), Peter Schutz (114, 5th) and Wyatt Koenen (4th, 121).
Park Center’s Jacob Hansen placed 6th at 189 pounds in Class AAA.
In the girls’ division, Piper Douglass placed third at 136 pounds while Maple Grove’s Carol Stevenson finished fifth at 155.
