Crazy Finish: Park Center Football Rallies Late; Wins in OT
Jerry Wise’s one-yard quarterback sneak in overtime gave the Park Center football team a 26-20 win over Sartell Wednesday.
The Pirates looked to be done, trailing 20-7 with under two minutes to play and Sartell in possession of the football.
But the Pirates’ defense forced and recovered a fumble leading to a Wise to Asa Cummings 27-yard touchdown to pull PC within 20-14.
Sartell recovered the ensuing onside kick try by Park Center but couldn’t get a first down on its next series.
The Pirates used all of their timeouts and forced the Sabers to punt on fourth and nine. But the snap sailed over the punter’s head and the Pirates took over on downs at the Sartell 44-yard line.
A few plays later Wise ran the ball in from the seven-yard line with 16 seconds to play, tying the game at 20.
But Sartell blocked the extra point try and the teams went to overtime.
After the Pirates defense came up with a fourth down stop in overtime on the Sabres, Wise scored on Park Center’s second offensive play to complete the improbable comeback.
The Pirates head into next week’s section playoffs with a 4-4 record. Sartell is now 1-7.
