Cooper Girls Basketball Team Beats Benilde to Advance to State
The Cooper girls basketball team beat Benilde-St. Margaret’s 62-47 in the Section 6AAA final to advance to their first state tournament ever.
Cooper got off to a fast start, grabbing leads of 7-2 and 15-5 in the early going before the Red Knights battled back to close the gap.
Cooper rebuilt their lead and took a 33-20 advantage into halftime, hitting six three-pointers along the way.
The Hawks kept the lead in double digits in the second half and secured a history-making win.
Kierra Wheeler had 16 points to lead Cooper, with Aja Wheeler adding 13 and Jada Buford 11.
Isabel Fleming had 26 points for Benilde.
