Cooper Football Loses Season Opener to St. Francis
The Cooper football team gave up some big plays in the passing game, leading to a 29-21 loss to St. Francis in the season opener for both teams.
Cooper took a 7-0 lead on a touchdown strike of 21 yards from Beckham Van Voorst to Erick Larkins in the first quarter.
Early in the second, Van Voorst threw deep to Ashton Harris for a 96-yard touchdown and Cooper seemed in control with a 13-0 lead.
St. Francis pulled within 13-7 at halftime, and then dominated the third quarter.
Tanner Rothbauer threw touchdown passes of 53 yards to David Downs and 40 yards to Adam Jordan as the Fighting Saints took a 22-13 lead after three quarters.
Each team scored once in the fourth as St. Francis held on for the 29-21 win.
Cooper is at Buffalo Friday in game two of the season.
