Champlin Park Legion Baseball Advances In Gopher Classic
The Champlin Park American Legion baseball team beat Elkhorn, Nebraska 10-7 in the first round of the playoff bracket of the huge Gopher Classic tournament Monday.
They added a 14-7 win over Sioux Falls (SD) East in the quarterfinals to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals.
Against Elkhorn, Champlin Park scored two in the bottom of the first to go up 2-0, only to see Elkhorn score four runs in the top of the second.
The Rebels responded with five runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.
** Update** Champlin Park defeated Omaha Burke (NE) 3-0 in the semifinals Tuesday morning. Preston Thielke threw a one-hit shutout for the Rebels.
Champlin Park now plays Papillion South (NE) for the title Tuesday afternoon at Minnetonka’s Veterans Field.
