CCX Sports Spotlight: Gannon Farrens, Maple Grove Cross Country and Soccer
In this week’s CCX Sports Spotlight, Chaz Mootz profiles Maple Grove boys cross country runner and soccer forward, Gannon Farrens.
This fall Farrens competed for both teams, as the senior was the top runner on the Crimson cross-country team and second-leading goal scorer for the Crimson boys soccer team.
Farrens grew up playing both sports and competed in both his sophomore season, but after just focusing on cross country last year, he got the itch to double dip again for his senior season.
To make it work, both coaching staffs for Maple Grove boys soccer and Maple Grove boys cross country have had to collaborate, but the results have paid off, as Gannon finished 39th overall in the Class AAA state cross country meet and was a big part in the Crimson boys soccer team that finished runner-up in the Class AAA state tournament.
He plans to run in college next year.
